Kate Means & Donna Melton
September 21st – October 8th
Thursdays through Sundays, 10-5
Kate Means
I began the process of art quilting in 2007. A neighbor and dear friend introduced me to this art form and we spent many hours experimenting with techniques. As I learned more, I realized how many possibilities there were to create my own pieces. I dye all of my fabrics, using ice and snow dyeing as part of the process. I became interested in natural dyes made from roots, leaves and the flowers of plants. I am also a weaver and have incorporated weaving into much of my work. I find that the two techniques fit well together. I also use photography in my quilts, taking original photographs and incorporating them into my pieces. In my older years, I am more patient and I know that there is so much more to come.
I have exhibited in the American Quilt Society festivals. I am a member of SAQA(Society of Art Quilters of America) and have exhibited in regional exhibits. I have served as President of the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild, in Wellsboro PA and was exhibit chair for the 2018 MLQG exhibit. Several of my works have been in exhibits in the Gmeiner Art Gallery in Wellsboro PA. I recently moved back to the area in 2019 and live in Christiana Pennsylvania.
