Farm Flu

For Young Students (suggested ages 4-8):

We'll start with a storytime read-aloud of "Farm Flu" by Teresa Bateman, and will learn about different kinds of challenges pests and diseases pose in a garden and orchard.

Then we'll hike through the orchard and vegetable garden areas, where we'll look at and learn about row covers, bird and bat houses, and try to find some pesky as well as helpful insects.

A book-related activity will be included, and we'll finish up with time for a snack.

For Older Students (suggested ages 8-12):

We'll learn about how plants can be unwell - from nutritional deficiencies to being attacked by insects, bacteria, and fungi.

We'll hike through the orchard and vegetable garden areas, where we'll look at and learn about row covers, bird and bat houses, and try to find some pesky as well as helpful insects. We'll also search out and discuss plant diseases and talk about things to do to keep plants healthy

Hands-on activities and snack time will be included.
