Tops & Bottoms

For Young Students (suggested ages 4-8):

We'll start with a storytime read-aloud of "Tops and Bottoms" by Janet Stevens, and learn about different types of vegetables and where they grow on a plant (above and below ground).

Then we'll hike through the vegetable garden, where we'll see (and hopefully pick) some examples of yummy vegetables which are grown on the tops, middles, and bottoms of garden plants.

A book-related activity will be included, and we'll finish up with time for a snack of fresh garden veggies.

For Older Students (suggested ages 8-12):

We will investigate the different ways vegetables grow and how they are harvested.

Learn about plant parts (botany!) and see what those different parts do with the help of demonstrations and short experiments. We may look at seeds, vascular systems, roots, and explore some common gardening tools.
