Tasting Events

Enjoy one or more of our signature tasting events at the farm in fall. Think "wine tasting" but with fruit!

These educational, fun, & tasty events come as a sit-down option, a tasting-while-touring option, or at the farm store's tasting bar. No two tastings will be the same as we explore dozens of different varieties each day. Fruit fans and explorers of all ages are welcome!

Reservations are required for Apple Explorer and Tasting Hikes, but not for the Heritage Apple Tasting Bar.

Be sure to see full details about tastings towards the bottom of this page (under the event descriptions).

Meet at the Blue Star Barn Market at NSO:
3232 Limestone Rd. Cochranville, PA 19330

Call 484-502-7360 if you need help finding us

Parking, walkways, buildings, and restrooms are all handicapped-accessible.

The farm itself is not handicapped accessible (walking only over grassy terrain: not wheelchair, walker, or stroller-friendly). If you or a member of your group have physical challenges, we suggest you choose an Apple Explorer event rather than a Tasting Hike.

Events are scheduled on Sundays from mid-September until mid-October. Each event will include different varieties of apples and/or other seasonal fruits which are ready, so come to one, two, or all four events - it's up to you!

Starting times are at 12:30 and 2:30 and will last approximately 90 minutes each.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your reserved starting time.

You'll be able to shop before and/or after your tasting experience at the farm store, if you desire.

Beverages, snacks/palate cleasners, and restrooms are provided (please bring your own snack if you have dietary restrictions)

What to Bring:

  • A picnic lunch if you desire, and make a day or it
  • A camera and sense of adventure (for those doing the Tasting Hike)

What NOT to Bring:

  • Pets or other animals
  • Additional guests without checking in with us ahead of time.

Apple Explorer Tastings: will take place rain or shine, as we can do them indoors or outdoors. Simply bring a layer if it's a bit chilly in case we're doing the seatings outdoors. If it will be too cold or rainy, the seating will be indoors in a climate controlled area.

Tasting Hikes: will take place in light rain and most any temperature conditions, so please dress accordingly. If the weather is forecasted to be severe, however, we will contact you ahead of time to make other arrangements.

Weather conditions can vary and change quickly. Please check the forecast and make sure your are prepared with the proper attire for the projected weather and outdoor conditions. Be prepared for changes in temperature, wind, or a surprise rain shower by bringing a jacket. Morning grass is often wet, and temperatures can range from downright chilly in the morning to tshirt-warm in the afternoon. Wear or bring layers as well as appropriate footwear (waterproof/water resistant recommended for dewey grass, but sneakers, sturdy sandals (like Keens or Tevo) or other sensible footwear is fine).

Some other weather-related items you may want to consider are sunscreen, bug spray, and sunglasses or a hat.

We will cancel due to weather only if we feel the conditions would make your visit unsafe or completely valueless, and will let you know the day before if we need to cancel. If only light rain is forecast, simply bring a raincoat and enjoy a real farm experience.

If your plans change, you may cancel your reservation up to 7 days prior to the date booked and receive a full refund. Any cancellations that occur less than 7 days prior to your reserved date will be refunded at 50%. Cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to your reserved date are not refundable (except due to weather conditions, noted above).

If your plans change and you simply need to modify your reservation date, time, or number of attendees, please contact us as soon as possible to try to make other arrangements.

If we need to cancel for any reason (weather-related or otherwise), we will work with you to either come up with an alternative date for your experience or will refund your registration fee in full.

NSO is a working farm, and while we strive to provide as safe an environment as possible, we require your help in staying safe during your visit. Please:

  • Adhere to all instructions and/or warnings the farm staff and/or farm signage provide.
  • Review above suggestions on this webpage about what to wear and bring so you remain comfortable and safe.

The North Star Orchard farm staff reserve the right to cancel/stop your activity in progress if the above guidelines on this webpage are not adhered to. Our concern is for the safety and enjoyment of you and your group, our staff, and the farm itself. Refunds will not be issued if we need to stop your activity in this manner.
